APOKALUPSIS | 006 | A Promise of Resurrection

Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. (Revelation 1:7)

In our previous studies, we looked at how the book of Revelation, even though it was given by God the Father, is centered on Jesus Christ. We looked at the authorities behind the book - The Father, The Seven Spirits of God, and Jesus Christ Himself.

The verse above depicts the second coming of Jesus Christ and fulfills one of the profound prophecies made by Jesus Christ while He was on Earth. On the night of His arrest, the high priest posed a question, "I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God." Jesus replied, "Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven." (Matthew 24:63-64)

Those who "pierced" Jesus were all the people who were involved in His death on the cross, starting from the instigators, the false witnesses, the people who shouted, "Crucify him!", all the authorities consenting to his punishment, etc. Jesus made a promise that they will be alive to witness His second coming.

But all these people are dead! The only possible way is to resurrect them to see Jesus coming amongst the clouds. The Bible does say that surely, they will be resurrected at the end of time.

In his prophecy of the second coming of Jesus, Paul writes, "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words." (1 Corinthians 4:16-18) Here we don't see any wicked person being resurrected, but if we look at other prophecies of the second coming, we'll see it.

Daniel, in his prophecy of the second coming, says that "...at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt." (Daniel 12:1-2)

Please note that he says "they that sleep in the dust of the earth" meaning all the dead, "some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt." There it is! At the second coming of Jesus (Michael), the people who were responsible for His death on the cross will be resurrected to fulfill the promise that Jesus made to them on the night of His arrest.

Jesus is the Man of His Word. I hope that gives us hope to depend on His promises. Until our next post, God be with you.
