It's 03:00am

In the Hebrew culture, the twelve hours of the night, beginning at 6pm, is divided into four parts - the first, second, third, and fourth watch. The fourth watch, therefore, begins at 3am and ends at 6am. This important period of the night contains two events:

  1. The darkest part of the night is just before dawn. This proverb was first published in print in the year 1650 by a theologian and historian, Thomas Fuller.
  2. The breaking of the day at dawn. On the night of his anguish at Peniel, Jacob went through a great time of trouble in which he wrestled with God "...until the breaking of the day..." (Genesis 32:24).
We are living in the closing scenes of this world's history. Through the mouth of Isaiah the prophet, God says, "For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people..." (Isaiah 60:2). The darkness stated here is gross (thick) which covers the people.

Nevertheless, during this time of thick and gross darkness, God calls on a people, "Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee." (Isaiah 60:1) "And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light." (Romans 13:11-12)

During the final watch of the night, before the second coming of Jesus, God calls upon you and me to stand for Him. There will be great darkness and trouble, the people of God will have to wrestle with God and prevail just as Jacob did.

God calls upon you. What is your answer?
