Light in the Darkness

Light is one of the most essential and vital elements for life. Darkness is the absence of light and whether we like it or not, a life in total darkness, whether physical, mental, or spiritual is not a good one. We need light!

During the closing scenes of earth's history, which I believe we're in right now, the darkness in the world increases in intensity. "Behold darkness is upon the earth, and gross darkness the people..." (Isaiah 60:2) For this reason, many are condemned because "...light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved." (John 3:19-20)

What is this light that Jesus was talking about?

  • I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. (John 8:12)
  • To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. (Isaiah 8:20)
  • Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. (Psalms 119:105)
  • For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life: (Proverbs 6:23)
  • We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. (2 Peter 1:19-21)
Let's summarize the points above.
  • Jesus, who is the Word of God (John 1:1-4, 14), is also the Light of the world.
  • The Word of God and Jesus, written in the Bible, is Light.
  • The Law or the Commandments of God is Light.
  • The prophecies and testimonies of all the prophets and Bible writers are Light.
Let us apply this to our lives. To walk in the light as Jesus said is to walk according to everything His Word which includes:
  • Following and keeping His commandments.
  • Hearkening to the counsels of the prophets and Bible writers.
May God give you the strength to do as He says.
